Vintage England Meakin Audubon Passenger Pigeon Extinct Cottagecore Plate [5870]

A hauntingly beautiful piece of American natural history — this Vintage Alfred Meakin collector plate features the Passenger Pigeon (Columba Migratoria), reproduced from the Elephant Folio Edition of Audubon's Birds of America by the National Audubon Society.

Two Passenger Pigeons are depicted perched on branches — one in soft brown and grey tones, the other displaying the species' striking blue and salmon-rose plumage. The Passenger Pigeon, now extinct, makes this plate not only a lovely decorative piece but a poignant piece of natural history. The wide embossed floral and rose border in bright white adds timeless elegance. This example presents in excellent condition with a clean, bright reverse.
