Vintage Lamberton China Netherlands Aid Society Princess Margriet Plate [6961]
Vintage Lamberton China Netherlands Aid Society Princess Margriet Plate [6961]
A rare and deeply moving piece of wartime history, this commemorative plate was issued by the Netherlands Aid Society to celebrate the birth of Princess Margriet Francisca van Oranje-Nassau on January 19, 1943 — born in exile in Ottawa, Canada, while the Netherlands was under occupation. The face of the plate is a cartographic masterpiece, depicting the Dutch realm in full: the Netherlands, Suriname, the Dutch Antilles, and the Dutch East Indies, all connected by compass lines and adorned with royal coats of arms. At its heart, a calligraphic Dutch poem speaks of longing, hope, and the promise of return — a collector's treasure of extraordinary provenance and patriotic sentiment.
